It was brought to my attention that the Press Release we shared with you about Spencer Wilding coming to TopCon Geek Expo 2016 had broken links and images that did load. This was due to a software snafu and has been corrected. We are sorry for any concern this may have caused. To read the Official Press Release about Mr. Wilding’s appearance at TopCon please visit

Press release

Fifty years ago we were invited to go on a five year mission to explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations and to boldly go where no one has gone before. Yet, the mission that ended after just 79 episodes on NBC refused to go into dry dock and be decommissioned. Lacking in viewership on prime time the show that wouldn’t be phazed out found its fan base in reruns, movies and spin offs and has continued to warp drive into the minds, hearts and souls of every next generation.

Now Topeka’s very own TOPCON brings an iconic symbol of the Star Trek Universe; THE BRIDGE OF THE ENTERPRISE to TOPCON GEEK EXPO 2016 in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Star Trek.

“I cut my SyFy teeth on Star Trek.” The GYPSY Creator and Executive Director of TOPCON explains, “When I found out that we could bring this amazing representation of the Enterprise Bridge to our Fans I wasted no time in making arrangements to get it to TOPCON.”

The Bridge was built and is maintained by Starbase Studios of Oklahoma City. It is an exact replica of the NCC 1701 Bridge and Fans will have an opportunity to get up close and personal with the Captains Chair, Helm and Navigation Console. “It would be nice if we could also bring in the operations area but the logistics to do that are monumental. However, we have taken steps to create a set and back drop that should awe any Star Trek Fan.” The GYPSY says with a sly grin.

The Enterprise Bridge is just the edge of the Neutral Zone of the events that TOPCON GEEK EXPO 2016 has on the shuttle deck to celebrate STAR TREK’s 50th. From Star Trek celebrity guests to Star Trek themed activities and events TOPCON is throwing a Star Trek party that Fans won’t soon forget and the festivities start on April 24th @ 3:00 pm at the TOPEKA PERFORMING ARTS CENTER.

Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage, live in concert for the 50thAnniversary of Star Trek, brought to you by Topeka Performing Arts Center, VenuWorks and TOPCON GEEK EXPO. The concert will appear for one day and one performance only in Topeka. This concert is for you.. Larry Gawronski, Executive Director of TPAC points out, “The closest that this concert will play to this area is Tulsa; Kansas City doesn’t have it, Wichita doesn’t have it, Topeka has it. We are very fortunate to have this award winning show here in our community.” People of all ages and backgrounds will experience the franchise’s groundbreaking and wildly popular musical achievements while the most iconic Star Trek film and TV footage is simultaneously beamed in high definition to a 40-foot wide screen. The concert will feature some of the greatest music written for the franchise, played by the CzechNational Symphony Orchestra, including music from Star Trek: The Original Series, StarTrek: The Motion Picture, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Star Trek: Insurrection, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep SpaceNine, Star Trek: Voyager and more. This never-before-seen concert event is perfect for music lovers, filmgoers, science fiction fans and anyone looking for an exciting and unique concert experience. CineConcerts Co-Founder and Producer Brady Beaubien said, “When a story has renamed aircraft carriers, NASA space shuttles and the first names of thousands of children in hundreds of countries, you realize these characters go beyond entertainment, but are more like family. Star Trek breaks every boundary of judgment or expectation. It inspires, challenges and re-thinks. Star Trek is who we want to be.Inspired, fiercely loyal, sometimes reckless.”Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage will be conducted by Justin Freer, who has quickly become one of the most sought-after conductors of film music with a long list of full symphonic live to projection projects under his belt, ranging from The Lord of the Rings trilogy to The Godfather to Gladiator. He has appeared with some of the world’s leading orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra,San Francisco Symphony and Sydney Symphony.

To add to the experience members of Star Fleet International will be in attendance in full uniform to greet Fans. There will also be a Cosplay Contest before the concert where the best costume will win passes to TOPCON GEEK EXPO 2016 as well as other valuable prizes.

“To be able to do this for the Fans of STAR TREK AND TOPCON means more to me and my TOPCON Team than we can possibly express.” Says The GYPSY, “TOPCON and TPAC are about the community and bringing the community together with great entertainment. Working with TPAC to bring the community STAR TREK: THE ULTIMATE VOYAGE helps TOPCON GEEK EXPO 2016 to support yet another community event that makes Topeka a great place to live, work and play.”

Nikki is the quintessential nerd. If it is anything Geek Nikki is into it and where she finds the time we just don’t know.

Besides holding down two full time jobs she helps her parents in their nursery, assists with Empower Comiccon, travels to numerous conventions to Cosplay in costumes she makes herself plus donates her time to make TopCon Geek Expo bigger and better each and every year.

Last year Nikki was TopCons Co-Chair and this year she has taken on the daunting task of lining out TopCon’s panels. She said, “I don’t think I’ll have the time to put my best effort forward as Co-Chair so I will be the Panel Coordinator.” We believe that Nikki has her work cut out for her and it may be an even more daunting task than being Co-Chair. But that is OK because the TopCon Team knows that in true Superhero fashion Nikki will rise to the occasion and beating all the odds stand victorious because Nikki is a true Super Geek!

It is a tough job putting on a con and sometimes you have to be ready to improvise, adjust and be flexible and so it was when we were planning TopCon Geek Expo 2015.

When we sat down to finalize our contract with the Ramada Topeka Downtown Hotel and Convention Center we discovered that someone had inadvertently given away our space to a wedding party. It was an honest mistake but a mistake that had us frantically scrambling for a solution.

The Ramada staff stepped forward, reserved us other space in the Convention Center and gave us a discount for the problems and concern that was caused; they saved the day. That is why TOPCON GEEK EXPO 2016 is there again this year taking roughly two thirds of the Convention Center and in 2017 we will have the entire Convention Center.

TopCon believes in supporting those who support us and the Ramada stepped forward to support us when we needed it most.
